Wednesday Procedure in Iowa City

What a long day. Just crawling into bed now as I type this, I wanted to give a quick update on how our day went.

Gannon couldn’t eat or drink anything after 8:45 am so our day started early – 6 am to make sure he got a full meal in before he had to go NPO (nothing by mouth).

We headed down to Iowa City for our 2:15 procedure – had to be there by 1:15 – he wasn’t taken back to the OR until 3:30 – we weren’t discharged until 5:30. It was just such a long day. They gave him some sedation medication that made him pretty loopy and we were all giggling like crazy.

The procedure went as planned, everything turned out fine but man was it a long day. We had to get Craig some coffee while we waited during Gannon’s procedure. Also, he’s not flicking off the camera, he’s adjusting his mask.

Our nurses were so great, our favorite person was the child life specialist who had us all laughing while they were starting Gannon’s IV (including Gannon thanks to happy juice!) She had so many cool games on her ipad, in fact Carver is playing one now right next to me as I type this. If you’ve got a little tot who loves trucks, look up the app Trucks HD on the app store – it’s easy enough for Gannon (not even 2 yet) to play and Carver loves it too!

Words cannot properly describe how awesome it was to have Craig with. They are only allowing visitors for procedures – not regular appointments. We took turns distracting Gannon, we had a good time chatting the two hours down and the two hours home. Guys, I picked an awesome guy. He really kept me going today. He is just an awesome dad and an awesome friend. I’m so fortunate to have him by my side.

If you’re the praying kind, please pray for genetic testing results before Christmas. Every day I get more and more anxious to get that phone call. On the 25th it will be 3 months. I’m trying not to put too much weight on the results but it’s hard not too. I’m desperate for answers. We are so close.

Thanks guys, Carver and I are headed to bed. Craig had a fire fighter meeting tonight when we got home so he’s still gone.

Carver will be making a guest appearance on mom’s blog in the next few days so watch for that. Thanks for all the love and support. You guys are the best.

One more thought, Craig’s Great Grandpa Clem passed away and we had to miss the funeral today because of Gannon’s procedure but can you believe Carver and Gannon lived to meet their Great Great Grandpa? Here are the five generations right after Carver was born:

I’m so sorry for your loss. I will pray that you get those genetic results soon. I know I’d be on pins and needles if I had to wait…especially this long! Hope the procedure will help Gannon out!

So sorry for your loss. I’ve been praying for Gannon all along so that will continue. He is a very lucky little boy to have such good parents. Bless you all.

Prayers for all of you and that the results come in before Christmas. I’m so glad that Craig could go with and be there. Its so much easier with more hands to help and I think Craig wants to be there also. What funny faces from Gannon, how sweet to have a helpful nurse.
    Love your posts.

Glad your long day is over and that Craig was able to be there with you!! Some of these restrictions for COVID make it so much harder for parents!! I always had to go in with my dad to his doctor’s appointment because he wouldn’t hear what they said but pretended he didn’t, so I had to be his ears and memory…I would not have allowed him to go to emergency or the doctor’s office by himself…luckily for me, I never had to have that fight because his heart gave out on the first day of restrictions here. Praying for you all…especially that the genetic testing comes back soon with answers!!!
