I’m always working to be as authentic as possible here and I think I may have been dishonest about our bathroom remodel. I’ve been sharing pictures like this:
I came to this realization when someone told me they were jealous of my bathroom remodel the other day. I laughed out loud! Who would be jealous of my bathroom remodel? Especially considering….
There is no trim…
There is no door…or decor….our guests cant even use our bathroom because there literally is no door.
There are no outlet covers…
Some of the pipes are exposed…
We have a wall with no texture and no paint…
and while I am so grateful to be able to start our bathroom remodel, it is nothing to be jealous or envious of.
I think this life lesson can apply to all social media – when you are feeling jealous or envious of someone or something, remember you are not always seeing the big picture.
We did cash flow this remodel so we are taking it slow. We will get there eventually, it will be finished some day but we are happy with the progress made so far. I would rather have a half done bathroom than a load of debt to go with it!

I like what you have done with your bathroom and eventually it will all be back together. I can be envious of it because its not pink, lol. You could always hang a shower curtain on a spring rod as a door to just make do.
Your bathroom is awesome! And you financial plan to accomplish it is terrific!
Assumptions about “wealth” are so hard. I get wise cracks about my nice car and how rich I am. I remind such commenters that I drove the same car for 17 years and saved up every car payment after it was paid off to buy this car.
Life is choices. You set goals. You save $ for it. You finish when you finish. Hence you get precisely what you want and without additional cost of interest!
Wouldn’t it be a lovely world if all we got was support for and congratulations on our journey through this life? “Walk a mile in my shoes”.

We bought our home almost 20 years ago. I lived with painted sub floors for years in order to save and buy the flooring we wanted. Our home was a fixer upper and we have been doing it when finances and time allowed. Keep up the great work.
Your bathroom is wonderful, white subway tile and a patterned black and white floor. It has a timeless look. Can’t tell which year is was remodeled. Your color can come in the accessories that are easily changed out not expensively torn out. So smart of you to cash flow a project like this.
When my kids were young, I remember an ad for brownies or a cake mix that could be made in the microwave. Their slogan was “Total, instant gratification”. That’s what’s wrong the way people handle their finances…they want total, instant gratification so they borrow money to get what they want right now, giving no thought to how much they will be really paying for the item when interest is added and how difficult it could become to make that monthly payment if something happens to their income stream. Saving and paying cash for what you want is so much more satisfying. It’s like all the debt amassed by those pursuing higher education…whose to say they will immediately get a job after graduation (especially when so many choose a degree that has no jobs for them), yet they go forward with their plan. I got a Bachelor’s and Master’s, paying for each semester when the bill came, so I had no debt when I got my diplomas. I did both while raising 3 kids. My Bachelor’s took 9 years and my Master’s another 2.5 (that one while also working full time as a teacher). Total satisfaction comes from paying cash for what you get and not losing the joy in your life to interest! Great job on the bathroom and for doing it the smart way!
Whatever else isn’t done yet, I would have to get a door put in! Would just HAVE TO.
I’ve been wiorking on a total house remodel since 2010. It’s been set back by a car accident, a heart attack, an unexpected pregnancy and lack of cash. However we’ve never went in debt to get it completed, though the first few rooms might be in need of a second remodel by the time we finish. One recommendation I would make is to get covers on those bathroom outlets. Little fingers have a way of getting where they shouldn’t and the plastic covers can be bought for less than $1.
