A very sweet blog reader left a comment and asked about Gannon. She was concerned because I haven’t given a Gannon update in a long time. Gannon has had a myriad of medical issues since he was born that has required numerous specialist visits, testing, hospital stays and procedures. On December 23rd we will have been one year procedure free! I used to have a series called “The Gannon Update” and I’m very pleased to say, this may be my final Gannon update.
Gannon is doing so so so well. Gannon graduated from speech therapy in mid-October. If you recall, in Spring 2020 we learned that Gannon hadn’t been hearing much of anything, had significant hearing loss and a speech delay. We started him in speech therapy – about 45 minutes every Thursday for just over a year. He tested out of speech therapy and his speech has BLOSSOMED – he is now (just about) speaking in full sentences.
Gannon is 90% potty trained! This was a HUGE concern of mine for years, especially because he requires a high amount of laxatives and stool softeners (he still does) and because of the botox they used on his internal anal sphincter to treat his anal achalasia. Potty training has been pretty painless, he caught on really quickly. Even this past week we’ve made a ton of progress in the #2 department/potty training.
Gannon’s big belly is just a regular old belly now – he’s rarely bloated and we’ve got a laxative/stool softener regime down pat! Every once in awhile we have to play catch up a bit but we haven’t had to progress to an enema in months!
Gannon is absolutely OBSESSED with tractors. When we play the “favorites game” at Supper/bedtime, we ask Gannon what his favorite part of the day is and his answer is ALWAYS “tractors” and when we ask him if anything made him mad sad or angry, his answer is ALWAYS “tractors.” EVERYTHING REVOLVES AROUND TRACTORS.
He is a self proclaimed mommy’s boy (which I just love) and he loves tractors (as previously mentioned), snuggling with Mom at nap time, playing with “Farver” (Carver), and watching tractor toy shows on YouTube. He loves being absolutely goofy. He makes us laugh all the time. He HATES having his picture taken and his favorite food is mayo bread (that’s just mayonaise + bread, ew right?).
Gannon is still pretty shy around new people, we sometimes wonder if Gannon’s mind works a little different than ours but for the most part, Gannon is doing wonderfully. The anal botox was absolutely a quality of life change for all of us but especially our sweet little Gannon. There’s a good chance he’ll need another round of botox when he gets older but for now, we won’t need to follow up with cardiology until Kindergarten and we will still follow up with urology and our GI doctor every year.
It’s hard to believe but Gannon is right on track to head to THREE YEAR OLD PRESCHOOL next August – that’s INSANE to even think about sending him on the bus with Carver but we are so excited to see his progress and see him grow every day!
With that, I don’t expect there to be another Gannon update considering how well he is doing! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here is a link to posts about the health issues that Gannon has dealt with: http://www.thepinkshoelaces.com/category/family-medical-updates/

Oh my gosh what a wonderful post for your heart to write! YEA GANNON! Thanks to his tenacious Mom, he has overcome challenges that were left by other providers as his lot in life. How full your heart must be-I cannot imagine.
Thank you for the update! Happy weekend to ya’ll. May the farm get wrapped up soon and Dad/Craig be home for family time for a few months π
Brilliant news!! All because you were his best advocate ever!!! Way to go, mom!! It is hard to believe he is two and a half – where has the time gone?! They do grow up fast! Another update I haven’t heard about was the bathroom? Finished yet? I know you are working on being debt-free, so I understand that it takes time to save up for each new thing (and so good for you for doing it that way)!
Thanks for thee Gannon update. I guess since neither you or you mom had said anything about problems for him I assumed he was doing ok! So glad the speech issue has been worked out and I hope the hearing isnβt too affected. You and Craig are great parents and have done all any parent could for your little guy.
Happy Thanksgiving π¦!
Reading this just makes my heart happy! great progress for Gannon and for his family, he is better and blooming.
I’m so happy to hear how well Gannon is doing! Even with all he’s been through he always seems like the best natured little guy with the absolute sweetest smile.
