I recently got this comment on my blog from a reader named Lola:
“My personal preference, please don’t take all your pictures with your mouth wide open. I prefer seeing your beautiful face to your mouth, seeing your fake laugh. I was hoping you would get past that phase.”
Dear Lola, if you leave a public comment, you’ll get a public response. I was hoping you would get over the phase of leaving silly comments on the internet but here we are. I dedicate this post to you:

Also, despite rude comments on the internet, I am the HAPPIEST I have ever been in my entire life. I promise you, these smiles and laughs are ANYTHING but fake. The picture that tripped her trigger was the selfied I snapped after I had just finished a 12 mile bike trail with 557 ft elevation gain. I had just accomplished a goal I had been working at for over a year.

Smiling right back at you, Kalissa! Love all of those photos. And I think you showed great restraint in your response.
When I see you laughing or obviously thrilled about something, it never even occurred to me that your mouth was open… funny how we all see such different things. I see you happy, over the moon, excited, and positive (and a big WOW coming out of your mouth). Much better to be laughing and have your mouth open than frowning and sad or upset! Celebrate your wins! We all enjoy watching you have success and happiness. Thank you for sharing the good times in your life. Ignore the Debby Downers.
Way to go girl!!! You tell her!! How rude! I know someone just like her. I am very proud of you for not letting this comment affect you in a bad way! Nosy busybodies need to get a life! You keep on doing what you do. There are way more of us that love you & your family just as you are than there are people like her.
She might have over stepped but you over reacted to her comment. She did say it was her preference. She might have picked the wrong day to write the her comment. You need to be proud with what you have done with the bike ride, After only seeing wide mouth smiles, some people would wonder what is up. A simple explanation would have been enough.

I really didn’t ask for her preference or opinion on my smile or appearance. I’m not upset, offended, nor do I plan on changing what I post. I mean, it’s one thing if I asked for her opinion but I didn’t. I sincerely thought it was hilarious. I had a great laugh at it, with my mouth wide open and all.
Really? Kalissa over reacted? Would Lola say that if she were face to face? The internet has made it so normal to be critical and dish crap because of anonymity. If we were all standing in the same place, who here would say what?
Also, if readers are unaware of this generation in their 20s, this facial expression is common among them. Almost like a signature. I’m sure each of our generations has a signature in photos.
Kalissa, you do you! (I know you do NOT need the suggestion 😉
May I just say, I appreciate everyone keeping their tongues in their mouths – I don’t get all the pictures of people sticking their tongues out as I was raised to see that as rude…besides tongues really aren’t that attractive!! I love the way your whole face smiles and radiates your joy!!

Right?
Your full-on smile just radiates joy! I hope Lola learned that she picked on the wrong person that day. I’m glad you’re not letting her dark cloud rain on your happiness. Just keep being you!
Your smiles are beautiful! My mother taught me “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything!” I try to live that. Love seeing you happy!
I’m reminded of that old saying: “ Everyone’s entitled to my opinion.” Here’s mine: you should zip it, Lola.
Kalissa you did not over react! (Sewhappy). The way YOU express joy is the way YOU express joy!!! It’s NEVER wrong! Lola, my friends and I laugh because i do the same thing! Mouth always open! Not a phase and I am older than Kalissa’s Mom. Be Happy!!
