Intro to PODCASTS!

Folks, if you haven’t jumped on the podcast train, you are getting left behind!

  • Do you like FREE entertainment?
  • Do you like listening to books?
  • Are you sick of listening to music in the car?
  • Are you wishing you had more time to read?
  • Are you looking for something to listen to or watch while cleaning house or doing chores or exercising?

If you answered yes to these questions, YOU. NEED. PODCASTS.

A podcast is an audio recording of a show, interview, or just someone talking on a certain subject.

Podcasts aren’t new. They have been around for awhile. I remember making podcasts when I was in high school and posting them on iTunes for class.

I was not a podcast listener until I jumped on the Dave Ramsey train.

Dave has a radio show called “The Dave Ramsey Show” that runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday which means there are 3 45 minute long podcasts uploaded every day.

We listened to Dave in the car together to get a better understanding of his teachings and to learn more about finances. I was totally financially illiterate at this time last year. I couldn’t even SPELL 401k. Just by LISTENING to every one of Dave’s podcasts he has posted since early March of 2019, I would feel comfortable offering financial advice now.

So of course I listen to the Dave Ramsey show, I love anything produced by Ramsey solutions. I listen to the Rachel Cruze Show (Dave’s daughter) on podcast as well. Craig loves listening to The Ken Coleman show (career advice) and it actually inspired him to look into getting a new job that now he LOVES! I’ve recently jumped into the Borrowed Future podcast which is an in depth look into the student loan crisis in America which I find absolutely FASCINATING also produced by Ramsey solutions.

But, I wanted more. I LOVE self improvement. Self help books are my favorite genre there is. So I asked around to get some recommendations on other podcasts that I could listen to!

I was recommended to listen to Living Fully with Mallory Ervin and I LOVE it! So much inspiration, great guests, parenting advice, marriage advice, personal growth, and the exact podcast I was looking for! My favorite episode so far features Shawn Johnson – 16 year old Olympian.

My good friend Arianna from arianna_unsure (give her some love on instagram) ALSO has launched her own podcast and we are in cahoots to record one together in the near future. She is on Spotify. Here is her instagram: https://www.instagram.com/arianna_unsure/

I also love listening to Rachel Hollis’s RISE podcast which is directed more towards launching a business and technology in business but she also has some great interviews as well.

I’m a SUCKER for murder mystery so my sister Kayla recommended Serial – a podcast that outlines the murder investigation of Hae Min Lee – a popular high school senior set in Baltimore in 1999. I listened to the entire season one in a DAY while I was painting! (I wasn’t a huge fan of seasons two and three but season one is addictive!)

SO now what? You want to listen to podcasts but how?

If you have an iPhone you already have the podcast app downloaded on your phone. It is literally called podcasts. That’s what I use.

The logo looks like this:

Otherwise, here is a link featuring the top 10 podcast apps of 2019:

https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2019/08/best-podcast-apps-2019.html

Pick an app, download it, and begin listening! You shouldn’t ever have to pay for a podcast so if some kind of money transaction is involved, pick a different app!

If you like cats, there is a podcast for you. If you like quilting, there is a podcast for you. If you like a certain TV show like The Bachelorette or Grey’s Anatomy or the news, there is a podcast for you.

Do you have a favorite actor or actress or artist? Search their name on the app. I’m sure they’ve either been interviewed for a podcast or have one of their own. Rachel Hollis just did an interview with Tim McGraw the other day!

Are you wanting more information on meditation or parenting or marriage or even bringing the spark back in the bedroom – there is a podcast for you.

I’m now constantly consuming information now instead of listening to crap TV for background noise. You are what you consume and I am consuming positivity, self improvement, Christian, body positive, self love, energetic, motivating content in the car, at home, doing dishes, on a walk, doing laundry, EVERYWHERE I am. One more time, louder for the people in the back: YOU ARE WHAT YOU CONSUME! Consume good stuff.

I can listen to a podcast where as I cannot maintain focus long enough to even read one page in a book because I have so much other stuff to do!

Are you a podcast person? Can you recommend a good podcast? Are you going to try podcasts now that you read my blog post?

Have a good day guys! See you tomorrow at 5:30 am!

I LOVE Podcasts. I have gotten ride on Dish in my sewing room and now listen to Podcasts or watch YouTube videos. Thank you for your suggestions. I already listen to Dave Ramsey but will download Living Fully with Mallory Ervin. I’m intrigued by “Serial” and might give it a try.

I am not a tv watcher for the most part but love listening to podcasts when I am out running or when I am doing housework. I tend to listen to a lot of the crime ones. I really recommend Crime Junkie and also listen to True Crime Garage.

So, if you are listening to podcasts on your phone in your car, are you using your data?? I’ve tried listening to some pod casts, but they seem to get stuck after a minutes and I can’t figure out how to make them start up again. I would love to listen to Dave Ramsey’s podcast because the radio station I used to listen to him on moved his time to the middle of the night or got rid of him completely (BOO!!!).

I used to listen to Podcasts ., so thanks for the reminder. I’m listening to Pat Sloan in the background. I listened to two other podcasts before this. I don’t remember anyone talking so fast. Obviously, they are speeding it up. I’m finding that annoying. I wish there was some way I could slow it down on my iPad. I’ve been following your Mom’s blog for quite awhile and yours since you started. I don’t usually reply to any. I enjoy both of your blogs and following along with your family events.

In the Dark, season 1, and Accused, season 1, are two great true crime podcasts I really enjoyed. Although In the Dark is about a child abduction, which might be tough listening as a young mom.

I had to laugh at your new car blog post; I REFUSE to buy anything but a Japanese-made car as I feel they are far more reliable than domestic autos. I live in Canada and the Japanese brands are as popular here as the domestics. Hope your Highlander is good to you!
