The Gannon Update – Day 4 Post Op

These seats aren’t too bad – but tickets are VERY expensive. Blue Cross Blue Shield offers a coupon but that still doesn’t cover much and the concessions are average 😂

Trying to find some humor on this gloomy day. We’ve got an amazing view of Kinnick stadium in our new room and from the sounds of it, we might be “viewing” it for awhile.

Gannon hasn’t made any progress in eating or drinking – in fact I feel like we’ve made less progress today. If Gannon can’t swallow by tomorrow, it sounds like he may be getting a feeding tube 😞

It isn’t much like “Gannon won’t eat or drink,” it’s better described as “Gannon can’t physically swallow.” If we can finally convince him to try something new, liquids come straight out his nose and food comes right back up after he swallows. He’s almost completely lost his voice. His morale is just so low. He sleeps all the time, they assume because he has no fuel (calories) in his body. Hence, why a feeding tube sounds likely.

Physical therapy got him up and walking today, he colored on the white board for a bit and that was about all the energy he had. He licked a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and had a few licks of a popsicle. Beyond that, he hasn’t had anything to eat or drink (successfully) despite our best efforts since Sunday at 6 PM.

I ran home last night for about 12 hours, long enough to snuggle Carver, change out clothes, and bring Anders to stay with us here (thankfully they are totally cool with that as I’m breastfeeding him). We are going to miss poor Carver’s Christmas program tomorrow which just breaks my heart.

To those who have sent us messages or a Venmo, thank you. I haven’t had the chance to personally thank everyone or respond to messages but THANK YOU. From the bottom of our hearts. We feel so supported and loved.

If you’re the praying type, please specifically pray that Gannon can find some joy. Please pray that he’s able to swallow and that if he has to have a feeding tube, that it goes as smoothly as possible.

Thank you again for the love and support ❤️

I hope someone can zoom you into the concert. Not as good as being there in person but better than nothing. I hope the feeding tube insertion goes smoothly. At this point getting some calories and fluids into him is the best way to support his body healing itself.

Praying Gannon avoids the feeding tube. I don’t see an IV, fluids and hyperal aren’t options?

    Hugs to you all!
